Type of beans to use:

When you are preparing this dish, think about keeping it simple. You will use the same green beans that you would use for the classic green bean casserole you made at Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

The canned kind of beans will work better when you need to have dinner done quickly, instead of using fresh green beans that you will need to cook ahead of time to make sure they are tender enough.

Hello! Thanks for choosing this. In the directions, it should say to add the green beans on top of the meat mixture before you add the mashed potatoes on top. I can't wait to get your new book. You girls are awesome

  2. Debbie says:

Congratulations, Bob! This sounds yummy and we will be having it for dinner soon. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Colleen says:

How can 1 lb of ground beef make 12 servings?

  4. Cyd says:

You make it in a 9 x 13 inch pan. So we divided it into 3 across and 4 down and that is a pretty good sized serving. You can serve it however you would like! :)

  5. Cyd says:

Thanks Stacy! We made the correction. :)

  6. jaime says:

I made this for dinner tonight. It was delicious. I did have to improvise a smidge on the seasonings as I thought I had some and it turned out I didnt. One issue I had was that it was a little soft/runny. not terrible but not like the pic. I drained those green beans REALLY well. Any ideas where I went wrong?

  7. karen says:

this is made fine in a 8 or 9" square or round dish. that is what I have always used for shepherds pie and it turns out great. love this recipe better that the other way I have made for years. thanks!

  8. Christine Titus says:

This was really good, filling and simple to put together. Especially since I bought Bob Evans mashed potatoes at the grocery store just for the purpose of making this dish. It saved a chunk of time. If you have left over mashed potatoes, that would save you time too. My kids and hubby enjoyed this casserole, as did I. Wonderful weeknight meal!

  9. Cindy O says:

Hey! Wondering if this freezes well?

  10. Cyd says:

We have frozen leftovers in an airtight freezer container.
