UPDATE: Apr. 18, 2025, 10:00 a.m. EDT Nintendo has announced that Switch 2 preorders in the U.S. will begin on April 24. The original price remains unchanged for the console and launch titles, but select Nintendo Switch accessories will experience price increases in the wake of President Trump's tariff policy changes. This story has been updated accordingly.
TheNintendo Switch 2preorder process, whichPresident Trump's tariff policieshave thrown a wrench in, seems to have been resolved for now.
In an April 18 press release, Nintendo announced that preorders for the Switch 2 would resume on April 24. While some speculated that a price increase was on the way, Nintendo has left the MSRP of the new handheld console unchanged at $449.99. The price for the Mario Kart World bundle also remains unchanged at $499.99, as well as pricing for the physical and digital editions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99).

Nintendo confirms Switch 2 pre-orders are back on, and the price is unchangedWe haven't gotten away scot-free, though. Nintendo also announced that select Switch accessories will receive price adjustments in the near future as a result of the volatile tariff situation. There is still no confirmation on which accessories will be impacted and what prices they'll be changed to, but we expect to see some increases for peripherals like the Nintendo Switch Camera, Joy-Con controllers, and perhaps others. "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions," Nintendo added in the press release. "We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025."
The press releases also included a breakdown of current Nintendo Switch 2 console, game, and accessory pricing as of April 18:

The story so far
After pulling back the curtain on its new console during an April 2 Direct, Nintendo originally announced that Switch 2 preorders would open at select retailers on April 9. But, that quickly changed: The company said in a press statement in the days following the Direct that U.S. preorders would be temporarily delayed due to the Trump administration's new tariff policies.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," the statement read. "Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."

Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on: 3 things that make it a must-buyAs Mashable's Alex Perry pointed out, Nintendo hadn't specified whether this meant a price hike was coming. The company previously said the Switch 2 would retail $449.99, making it $150 pricier than the original Switch from 2017 and $100 more expensive than the 2021 OLED model. It's also slated to be sold as part of a limited-time $499.99 bundle with a download code for Mario Kart World, one of two exclusive launch titles.
At the time of writing, those with a Nintendo Account could still register their interest in reserving a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store, which hasn't yet changed its plans to send out preorder invites in waves starting Thursday, May 8. Priority invites are set to go to "registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2024." Shoppers will be notified via email when it's their turn to place a Switch 2 preorder and have 72 hours to do so. Preorders will be limited to one system per Nintendo Account.
