It's unlikely that fans will ever get to see a Poldark season 6, but there are still a few ways the show could continue in one fashion or another. Based on the Poldark novel series by Winston Graham, the British historical drama TV show premiered in March 2015 and lasted until August 2019 with Poldark season 5. The show follows Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner), a British Army vet who served in the American Revolutionary War. When he returns to Cornwall, he finds his estate in ruins and must work to rebuild his fortune.

In his efforts to rebuild, Poldark hires a scullery maid, Demelza Carne (Eleanor Tomlinson), who he eventually falls in love with and marries. A sprawling historical epic, Poldark struggles through a tumultuous time in world history as he tries to keep his family together and return the Poldark name to glory. The final season sees the French threatening to invade England, with their ships approaching the shores of Poldark's Cornwall. Ross thwarts the invasion and sails off for more adventures, promising to return to his pregnant wife soon. It's a slightly abrupt ending, but one that ends definitively.

Poldark season 6 has not been confirmed, and for all intents and purposes, it appears that the show is officially over. The book series consists of 12 novels, each subtitled, A Novel of Cornwall. Each season of Poldark adapted at least one book, with the first two seasons adapting two novels each, the third adapting the fifth and part of the sixth, and the fourth adapting part of the sixth and the seventh. The eighth novel takes place nine years after the seventh book, so to solve for this time jump, Poldark season 5 features an original storyline.

While this was a helpful decision for the TV series, ensuring that the same actors could portray the characters all the way through and avoid any confusing House of the Dragon-style cast swapping, it also means that adapting the remaining five books of the Poldark series could prove difficult, if not impossible. Those remaining books could be adapted into season 6, but Poldark would almost need to be a completely different show. Those novels focus on Poldark and Demelza's descendants in the 19th century, meaning the cast would have to be all new.

"There are some books... I need to check what books they are. I think Ross is quite a bit older. I think Jeremy, Ross's son, he's 16 or 18 or something. And I think when we left Ross, I think Jeremy might only be 10. I'm not quite sure."
Ross's young son, Jeremy, played by Oscar Novak, is indeed around 10 years old at the end of Poldark season 6, and Novak does appear in every episode of season 5, though rarely for very long. If season 6 were to follow books 8-12, which are set nine years after the events of the show, Jeremy would be at the perfect age to lead a compelling narrative arc.

Poldark season 6, or perhaps it could be called something else to differentiate the timeline from the original, could follow Jeremy's exploits in the 19th century. The series could follow the books, or it could explore real events of the time period, such as the Napoleonic Wars or the merging of the Kingdoms of Ireland and England.
