Do you need to watch Hawkeye? ›

Hawkeye is not required viewing thanks to Echo falling under the Marvel Spotlight banner of projects that do not require prior MCU viewing to understand the story.

Barton's first appearance was a brief cameo in Thor (2011), but he became a central figure of the MCU, appearing in six films as of 2023 and has the lead role in the miniseries Hawkeye (2021).

If you are very much plugged into the Marvel Universe, yes its a Must Watch. If youre not that bothered, then no. For a series about a pair of sharpshooters, Hawkeye frustratingly misses the mark too often. Well, at least for viewers who aren't its target audience.

It identifies Laura Barton as a former SHIELD agent. Confirming a long-held fan theory. Not just any SHIELD agent, but Agent 19. This is significant as later, after Laura left SHIELD, the designation “Agent 19” was passed to Bobbi Morse.

The costumed archer first appeared in Tales of Suspense no. 57 (September 1964). The man who would become known as Hawkeye was born Clint Barton. Orphaned at an early age, he joined the circus and apprenticed himself to the Swordsman, a performer who specialized in tricks with blades.

Kingpin is a criminal mastermind who is probably behind all the attacks on Hawkeye. Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, is a renowned Marvel villain who is often a thorn in the side for New York street-level heroes such as Daredevil and Spider-Man.

By giving him such an important role, Marvel Studios can show how influential Hawkeye's character actually is while also setting up the future of the MCU. By incorporating the Young Avengers in the main MCU continuity, new narratives can be introduced while making the audience more accepting of this new team.

Hawkeye has been a prevalent character in the MCU since the team came together in The Avengers. He is always there to help prevent danger, and despite not being the most powerful Avenger, he continues to be the most reliable.
